Local Hillside Venison and Lamb

Hill Venison and Lamb

We are pleased to be supplied with Lamb and Venison from the McNaughtons of Inverlochlarig at the end of the road in Balquhidder Glen – from where you can enjoy a scenic walk to the top end of Loch Lomond. The sheep are reared amongst the spectacular scenery where Rob Roy once ruled the countryside. Indeed Rob Roy McGregor spent his final days on Inverlochlarich (where the original part of his house has been added to over generations) before being laid to rest in Balquhidder Churchyard.

The sheep graze freely and their exceptionally sweet and succulent taste has been attributed to the heather and thyme referred to in Tannahills famous poem “Wild Mountain Thyme”.

"Let us go, lassie, go
To the braes o' Balquhither,
Where the blaeberries grow,
'Mang the bonnie Highland heather..."

Robert Tannahill Poet and songwriter.

Why Eat Venison
This delicious meat has  proven health benefits.
VENISON – THE HEALTHY CHOICE
Venison is:
  • LOWER IN FAT THAN A SKINNED BREAST OF CHICKEN
  • HIGHER IN IRON THAN ANY OTHER RED MEAT
  • CONTAINS OMEGA 3 USUALLY FOUND IN FISH
  • LOW IN CHOLESTEROL
  • NO ANTIBIOTICS OR GROWTH PROMOTERS USED
This venison needs no marinating and can be enjoyed for family favourites such as casseroles, roasts, stir fries and burgers.
ESCALOPES Pan fry or BBQ quickly as you would steak, or for stroganoff cut into strips and quick fry with garlic, and add cream and a dash of nutmeg.
MEDALLIONS Pan fry or BBQ quickly – treat as fillet steak.
MINCE – treat like beef, my kids love venison Bolognese and good old mince and tatties (mashed potatos).
CASSEROLE – makes lovely stew.
SAUSAGES AND BURGERS – fry or BBQ as normal.
MEATBALLS – cook in the oven or fry, lovely with tomato sauce poured over.

Venison and lamb can also be bought mail order directly from Inverlochlarig - www.inverlochlarig.com

We stock a range of cuts, but can order in anything you require.
